Bridge of Flowers

Spring likes to work to bring flowers onto the bridge, but this year that will not happen. As many know, the Bridge is in very bad condition and in desperate need of repair. Happily, there are other pleasantries that the Bridge will give us.

Although the Bridge of Flowers will remain closed for the 2024-2025 seasons, two special events will take place in Shelburne Falls in 2024: Bridge of Flowers Plant Sale (Saturday, May 11, 9:00 a.m.-12 noon, Baptist Corner Lot, Water and Main Streets. Perennials dug from the bridge and select annuals.) Art Exhibit and Sale to benefit the Bridge of Flowers (August 16-18, Shelburne/Buckland Community Center.) More information to come.

Hellebores

There are two sessions of four topics  about gardening for vegetables, lawns, herbs, and much more. Gardening in Changing Times , the Spring Gardening Symposium on April 12, 2024 will be open at the Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield, Mass.  $40. for registration.

The Western Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association has brought this event for many years and gives great information and many pleasures among all the topics.

In addition  there will be Soil Testing. If this is of interest bring 1/2 to 1 cup of soil that you dug up in several spots, 6-8″ deep taken randomly around the garden and mixed together. Take separate samples for different growing areas.  Testing is for pH only and limit of 3 samples per person. I know I will be doing  that this year.

Another treat is ‘take it or leave it’ on the Used Book Table.  I will definitely be leaving some books myself, and looking at other books which will likely end up in my bag.

Thank you Pat for promoting the UV symposium. I’ve been enjoying reading your blog since Deb Jacobs cued me to what you are doing. When you bring your books to the book swap table, which I’ll be “working”, please introduce yourself. I’d love to meet you!
