We left the snowy fields of Heath in a hurry on Thursday and made our way to our daughter Betsy's house. She and her broken ankle were on her couch where she had been rearranging her life for the previous 2 days. Plans were made to get her to the hospital at dawn on Friday morning. While she was in surgery we took a walk through the Brigham and Women's Hospital neighborhood where we saw a very neat park,…

There is no end to the chores. We go through a lot of firewood so Rory helped the Major. But then it was off to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst. We aren't allowed to take photos in the galleries, but the special big murals that Carle painted give a taste of the tissue paper he works with in his unique way. One exhibit was celebrating Carle's 80th birthday and the 40th Anniversary of The…

Rory has come to visit during school vacation and the chores begin. We found out the worms are not dead after all. At least not all of them, so we have to feed them eggshells to help reproduction, and squash flesh and seeds. If you look really closely you can see a couple of worms in their last meal. We also saw very very tiny worms, so I guess the eggshells work. We are not the only ones…

Our grandson Ryan, 11 this month, joined us at the End of the Road for some vacation. Well, we use the word loosely. There are always chores, and he is a strong young man. I needed his help. He even had to bake his own cookies. I bought the chocolate bits. We did some socializing and visited the Litchfield goats. They needed feeding. Chores everywhere.Of course there is a lot of history and culture to be enjoyed when…

Saturday we went to daughter Betsy's house for our third family Christmas gathering and we got all the traditional holiday treats. First there was a toy needing assembly. In this case a very simple cat Rolling Rocker. Rory and Tynan are going to the animal shelter this week to choose two kittens and all they wanted was everything about cats. They got a calendar (365 kittens!), two books about cats, kitten napkins, kitten toys and the rolling rocker.…

Eleven year old Rory came to visit last week. All the grandchildren had school vacation and we nabbed one for some fun in the snow. However, it was so cold that we enjoyed a lot of indoor activities as well. He needed to study up on light opera in preparation for finishing his requirements to become a Boy Scout in May so we listened to The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan's tale of a slave to duty who,…

Drew is my 9 year old grandson who now lives in Texas, near Houston, with his older brother Anthony, his mother (daughter Kate) and father, Greg. This week he had to write a story at school. A story that every grandmother hopes to hear.Granny's House by Drew LawnI love my Granny’s house! Of course it has Granny and Major. She has three very nice cats and one is shy and very hard to spy. The cats are hard…
