Celebratory Fiskars Giveaway

In December of 2007 (!) I began my career as a garden blogger.  I hardly knew what a blog was in those days. I had just discovered Garden Rant, and my friend BJ Roche at Fiftyshift said that as a writer I had to have  a blog. And so commonweeder was born.

What I knew about garden blogs – a blog was a place to share information and experiences and opinions through the Internet.

I did not imagine that a blog would make me think more about my garden, and the place of gardens in the world. I did not think it would bring me to a different understanding about food production, environmental dangers, or the rewards of travel. I did not think a blog would bring me wise and funny friends who loved being in the garden as much as I did. I leapt into the blogosphere and all this was unexpectedly mine.

With the help of Fiskars and Storey Publishing I am celebrating my Third Blogoversary with four Giveaways! If you leave a comment on this posting, possibly telling me about a favorite tool that you might put in this wonderful Fiskars tool tote that fits in a bucket you will have a chance to win this sturdy tool organizer.  Fiskars was founded in 1649 in Finland so they have had a lot of practice at making sturdy and efficient tools that will meet every need of the gardener. Including the need to give a useful gift at this season. If you already have a Fiskars organizer, you might know someone who would appreciate this organizer. It fits a 5 gallon bucket with straps that wrap snugly around the outside of your bucket which can either hold further supplies, or weeds as you work your way through the garden.

Leave a comment on this post, even as the week progresses. The Giveaway ends on Saturday night at midnight. A winner will be chosen at random on Sunday and I’ll ask for the winner’s mailing address. Next week I’ll start Giving Away three books from Storey Publishing.

Congrats on your Blogversary. I love my Fiskars pruners. Hardly ever go into the garden without them. I like the idea of these bucket inserts. I have tried to train myself to use such a thing but I usually end up having to hunt for it if I use it. I do better with things attached to my person which is how I keep up with my pruners. The little leather holster that keeps them by my side.

  2. Lisa at Greenbow

OOops, I meant to say Felco pruners. I use Fiskar scissors when doing any sewing or cutting out of art work. I didn’t realize Fiskars made pruners. Hmmmm Would be worth a try because their scissors are great so it would be reasonable to think their pruners would be so.

  3. Pat

Lisa – I love my Felco pruners, too, but Fiskars makes a whole range of tools for the yard and garden. My husband wants a Fiskars axe which has come highly recommended.

  4. Frances

Hi Pat and a very happy blogaversary to you! I have the tool organizer, gave it to my daughter actually, but wanted to wish you the best. Thank you for your blog. It was a thrill to meet you in person in Buffalo, we must make a date to get to know each other better at the next meet up. 🙂
    Frances

  5. Rose

Congratulations on your third anniversary, Pat! I’m so glad to have “met” you through the gardening blogoshpere. I feel guilty just appearing here for the giveaway, but the last week has been busy with Thanksgiving and all, and now I’m trying to catch up with everyone’s posts. But if I won the Fiskars organizer, I would definitely put my favorite Fiskars pruners in one pocket!

  6. Rose

Me again….I hate to make spelling mistakes…that should have read “blogosphere.” But then again, I suppose there is no such word anyway:)

  7. Pat

Frances – The tool organizer is very useful. When next we meet we can discuss all our favorite tools and I look forward to that.
Rose- It doesn’t look like you had any spelling errors, but some of these new words do have alternate versions. I claim never to have spelling errors, only typing errors. I’m a good speller but not a good typist, or good proofreader. Good luck on the giveaway.

  8. Ramble on Rose

Congratulations on the blogoversary! I would put my pruners, trowel and Cobrahead weeder in that organizer and be quite happy with the efficiency of the whole thing. I don’t like lugging numerous tools all over the garden, and one invariably gets left in a border somewhere.

  9. Pat

Rose – I know if I don’t have everything, I will have to trudge back to get some forgotten tool. This is a very handy item.

  10. Deirdre

My favorite tool is a squid hoe. It’s like a short handled grub hoe, but in addition to the broad blade it has a three tined fork. I use it more than any other tool, except maybe my pruners. One could keep twine and twist ties in that organizer as well as tools. I’m always looking for my twine and twist ties.

Congratulations on your anniversary. Writing about things always seems to help clarify my thinking about those things. Maybe I should start a blog.

  11. slammie

Congrats on the anniversary! Hmmm, my trowel, I guess. None of my gardening tools are by Fiskars. My scrapbook stuff on the other hand….. I might have to make a scrapbook bucket!!!

  12. Catherine B

I would put all of my scrapbooking scissors. What a handy tool this would be.

  13. Kathy

Writing, gardening , & Fiskars –great combinations. I would use the bucket organiser (already have a bucket in use:) for my gardening tools. I like to have them handy when I need them. My oldest tool is a Fiskars trowel which my dad gave me when I started my flower garden. It would definitely go into the organizer.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win your blogoversary prize.

  14. Chris

I would be lost without my pruners! This would be a great way for me to carry my tools around with me while I am in the garden!!

  15. CraftyAlice

Looks a handy bucket – specially made for Fiskars pruners. Might stop me leaving tools lying about the garden to get rusty! It’s a good thing that Fiskars tools are orange…they’ll show up in the snow we’ve got here in Scotland at the moment!

  16. Nan

You don’t need to enter me, but I wanted to say, congrats! It is so good having you here to come and visit. I learn a lot every time. In addition to your knowledge, your cheeriness is wonderful.

  17. Kelly Massman

That looks like a great tool to keep scrapbooking tools handy, too! 🙂 I imagine my husband would take it for its traditional use for gardening–maybe small pruning shears, shovels etc… Thanks for a chance to win! AND Congrats!

  18. Faye

My husband introduced me to vegetable garden six years ago. It’s alot of job caring for these vegetable, however it gives me a great feeling of accomplishment come harvest. Pruner and showel are my favorite tools. They are always inside my bucket as i go around my garden. With the organizer that your giving away, my tools would look neat and I can add more tools inside my bucket. Good luck… we learn from you.

  19. Kim L

The ideas are endless for this handy contraption, my mother-in-law is an avid gardener, so her using this to store fertilizers, spray bottles and pruners is awesome but if I wanted to be selfish and keep this baby, I would either use it in my scrap room on my work desk or in my kitchen to hold utensils and tools for cooking. I am always losing them and have broke one to many items due to illogical placement, lol. Love the Blog!!!

  20. Kathy

    Congratulations on your Blogoversary!

  21. Susie Kerner

anything Fiskars is great! Would love to win.

  22. Pat

I can see by the comments that buckets and organizers work for more than tools and gardening.

  23. Layanee

Congratulations on the blogiversary. The garden blogosphere is the better for your informative posts. My favorite tool is the soil knife which will fit quite nicely in the holder. I will be away for a week so don’t despair if I don’t answer right away when I win. HA HA

  24. Karen

I have always wanted one of the organizers to put in a bucket, either to use for all my tools in the garden (Fiskar pruners, scissors, and a digger) or I would use it in my sewing room! I have all the Fiskar scissors and cutters to put in it!
    I love reading your blog!

  25. Bambi

Congrats on the anniversary. I think I could love this tool organizer. I’m sure that I would not miss place my pruners and trowel anymore. Thank you aor the chance to win! FISKARS ROCKS

  26. Kathy

I would of course keep my rose tools in my Fiskars organizer. I am just realizing I have never given proper thought to organizing my tools. I just grap something. It would improve my gardening to have the right tool at hand, so Fiskars or not I am resolving to improve my approach. I am thrilled to hear about this blogging anniversary. To me, this ability to connect in virtual time is a blessing that balances some of the effects of instantaneous communication.

  27. Ann Jones

Fiskars just keeps on giving. I love your products. Keep em coming.

  28. Tinky

I would pop in my kitchen/herb scissors, which go outside with me to snip herbs. Or I could use the thing indoors for kitchen tools like the scissors. Happy anniversary, dear Pat. WHAT A LOAD of comments!

  29. janice

Cant live with out a trowel and pruning sheers!
    Pick me, pick me.

  30. Rhonda

Congratulations on your blog-iversary! I was surprised to see the Garden Bloggers Buffa10 as I’m a Buffalonian living in Lockport. And does Buffalo know how to do a Garden Walk or what!!!

Congratulations on your blog-iversary! I was quite surprised to see the Garden Bloggers Buffa10 here as I am a Buffalonian living in Lockport. And does Buffalo know how to do a Garden Walk or what!!!

  32. Ginny

I have been a fan of Fiskars for years – but not because of their garden tools. My first good pair of sewing scissors were Fiskars. I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager but only took up gardening within the last ten years. It makes me smile to think that Fiskars provides excellent tools for these two important but different loves in my life. I would love that organizer. Currently I have an apron for my pruners, weeder, trowel, etc. but it isn’t at all practical.
    Congratulations on your blogoversary!

  33. Pat

It looks like the whole idea of organizing is really popular. Thank heaven for Fiskars (I love their iconic handles too) and their clever products.

  34. Carmen

I’d use the caddy for my craft supplies – namely knitting needles, scissors, etc. Congratulations on your blogoversary!

  35. Phillip

I’m a big fan of Fiskars. I just bought one of their shovels after breaking yet another one (cheaper brand). Maybe this one will last. One of my favorite tools is the gardening knife. It comes in handy and I use it all the time.

  36. Hi Pat,
Like you I never imagined the opportunities that would open up or the great people I would meet when I started blogging. (You and I started the same year.)

    Congratulations on four years.
    Meems

  37. Eleanor

I am just finding you by way of Fiskars link on facebook! How exciting on your Blogoversary! Congratulations! I think I am going out to buy a shovel that Phillip mentioned! Our whatever brand shovel just broke!

  38. doctormom

Might be too big to fit in that garden-friendly carry-all, but I do love Fiskars’ loppers. (And congrats on your blogging years.)

  39. Linda Shewchuk

Congrats on the bloganniversary! I would love these to hold all my tools carried for my flowers and garden!!

I love fiskars for all my scrapping needs, and know that I would have the same satisfaction with using the holder & tools outside. I have fiskars trowels!

  40. Pat

I am not surprised that Fiskars products are so popular and in such demand. They are quality!
