While raking leaves yesterday I was stunned and surprised. My row of hellebores was covered by leaves from our sycamore and I had only seen a few of the hellebores big green leaves that are still showing off. As I cleared some of the leaves I saw a bit of white – small white buds were beginning to open. It was only this hellebore that was preparing to bloom. I am not sure of its name, but I think it is Ivory Prince.
Finding this hellebore was a lovely surprise on these wintery, rainy days. It seemed like an early Christmas present, Lucky me! However, I will not get the full treat until the early spring.
Oh, that IS exciting! I need to check mine, since we’ve been warmer than normal for early December. That cultivar is lovely!
Beth – Last spring (2021) was my first try with hellebores and I am so happy with them. They are so early in the spring!
