My Birthday Cake

It seems like I have been celebrating my 70th birthday for weeks – what with visiting grandchildren and a big cake at the Family Reunion for all the Zero babies, but yesterday was my actual birthday, which I share with several friends, making it a joyous day indeed.

All day long I collected email birthday wishes – a virtual birthday party – arranged by my friend Peter. He always has something up his sleeve!  A delightful gift!

Our favorite restaurant, the Gypsy Apple, is not open on Mondays so my husband stopped at the China Gourmet for my favorite meal, General Tso’s Chicken (yes, I know it’s not really Chinese) and stringbeans with garlic sauce, and he brought me a lemon cake with lemon buttercream and blueberries. Everyone at Green Fields sent their birthday wishes along with the cake.

I felt the blessings raining down on me all day. Thank you all.

Happy belated birthday! Peter forgot to mention that it was a special one so I was thinking I could be late and not be delinquent. But I’m glad it was a good one. The cake looks lovely, and I’m sure you did, too.

A very happy belated birthday to you. The cake looks delicious and your tribute to Elsa was lovely. Celebrate for the whole week.

Ah, Pat, talented and inspired gardener that you are, we know you work brilliantly in both the realms of flowers and flours: you garden and you bake. Your cakes are well-known well-received and quickly dispatched. So it was with alarm that we beheld that photograph of the blueberry buttercream birthday cake. “She had to bake her own birthday cake?” we asked ourselves. What a relief to learn that Henry had gone to the bakers of Greenfields market and brought home the gorgeous cake, beautiful enough to fool us into thinking only you could have made it. May every day in your garden, ever moment in your kitchen and every hour in your chair [reading, of course] be happy ones.

Happy Belated Birthday Pat! What a sweet cake… I would have chosen ‘Gypsy Apple’ as my first choice too. Many Many Many Happy Returns! Carol
