Garden Bloggers Bloom Day December 15,2012
Christmas cactus
I never have much in bloom at this time of the year. but on this Garden Bloggers Boom Day I have something to show. My big Christmas cactus sits in the corner of our bedroom and thrives with no care at all. A smaller Christmas cactus sits on the kitchen divider, the only blooming plant in public space. Lots more blooms to come on both.
Cyclamen
This little pot of cyclamen , bought last February, spent the summer forgotten under a shelf on the piazza where it had fallen. When I brought plants indoors in September, this little plant was showing new growth. Brave little plant. And determined.
Succulent in bloom
I brought the two hypertufa troughs I made into the house in the fall, not because I was worried about the plants, but because I was worried about the troughs. The troughs, and my potted bulbs are resting in our unheated, but sunny, Great Room. Some of the succulents are hibernating, but this mystery plant is blooming, and has been blooming for over a month. If anyone has any ideas what type of succulent it is I’d be happy to know. The garden shop where I bought it, could not name it.

I only have indoor blooms now too. I love that cactus and the succulent is a cutie. I have no idea what it is though. Happy GBBD.

Lisa – It will be a while before there are more blooms, but I have hopes for the potted bulbs.

Is your cyclamen fragrant? There is a white that smells so good. I always search for that one when I find a shelf of them in a garden center.

I well remember your lovely sun room. How nice that you have that succulent in bloom along with the Christmas cactus. It is a bit lean here for blooms but then that is expected. Enjoy the season, dear Pat.

Mi mom’s old Christmas cactus looked a lot like your big one when it was in its prime. I hope my cuttings survive to become so grand. Thanks for sharing.

Wish I could help you with the succulent ID, but I certainly think your Christmas Cactus compensates for the wintry scene out there, in advance of any snow!

You have some very nice blooms for this time of year! I wonder if that is a little toothed haworthia…there are so many variations in the family. I’m not sure that there are blooms like that though.

Pat, I’m thinking your unknown succulent might be some kind of Nananthus, possibly aloides, although the flowers don’t look quite right. Are they open all the way? There are several other types of Nananthus too.
My only flowers for Bloom Day are indoors too, so I’m foregoing a post.

Pat, I just realized I’m wrong about that id. I saw one that looks exactly like yours identified in a blog post. It’s called Faucaria.
